OUR SEASON SO FAR!

We have had a really busy start to the season. Marshman Paul has been opening the mill on a Thursday especially for our Norfolk in a Nutshell Walk. We are amazed to see just how many people have been on the river and moored along the Staithe.

Its must be a lovely for visitors to see the huge sails turning as they cruise or sail along the River Thurne. If you would like to see her turning or go inside please pop along any Sunday between 10.30 and 4.oo or join one of our Norfolk in a Nutshell Walks which leave from the Wind Energy Museum NR295JU every Thursday at 11am.

If you are local and would like to help opening the mill then please do call Debra on 07796407864.

MILL OPEN 2021

We were very disappointed that our plans for the mills 200th birthday had to be cancelled last year. However, we are hoping to receive lots of visitors this year. Marshman Paul is there on Sundays from 10.30 - 4pm, he loves to tell you about the history and explain how the mill works.

At 200 hundred years old she is still in full working order, so do pop along and watch the sails turning. There is no admission fee but donations are very welcome to keep the sails turning.

Look out for our special events too - we normally have Strawberries & PIMMS and a Cheese and wine evening so watch this space.

CALLING PHOTOGRAPHERS & ARTISTS

Hi to all the talented people out there……..

In January we asked photographers & artists if they could help the mill out!!!!

Throughout its 200 years it has been an iconic part of Norfolk’s landscape. Not only has it worked to drain the land, but it is has become a special place for many people and a massive draw for artists, photographers and television programs. It has also been widely used by local and not so local businesses in advertising the area.

On behalf of the mill we would be very grateful if you could donate one or two files or paintings that we can use in our 6x4 auction and an exhibition ‘200 years in our landscape’.

If you are happy to help, we would be so grateful.

The files will be printed for the auction and the exhibition and if you are donating paintings these can be 6x4 or any size of your choice.

Look forward to hearing from you – message – call 07796407864 or email info@thurnewindmill.co.uk

Of course, we will credit everyone, thank you.

They sang from the top of the mill

"I'm dreaming of a white windmill"

Glenn Hoddy and Debra Nicholson standing on top of Thurne Windmill

Wow! what a difference 2 days make. If I'm really honest once we got up close to the Windmill the enormity of what we were going to start became real. How were we going to get this painted with 2 coats of paint over 2 days? Little did we know that we had a group of local East Anglian businesses and Thurne Mill volunteers that were really ready to 'Roll Up Their Sleeves'. Over 20 people attended the event, and made a real difference to this Norfolk Broads Landmark. 2 days and 2 coats of paint, now that is impressive. A big thank you for everyone for all your hard work and making a difference, I hope that you enjoyed your time with us.

One of our attndees has just told us "It was fantastic to be a part of something like this. Everyone was so lovely and I felt I had made a difference to something that will be appreciated by many for years to come."

We have been so lucky to have been a part of this restoration project and we can thank Thurne Windmill for allowing us to be part of it, and the great news is that we are going to continue to support them with our Ethical Business Networking Events this year. Our teams have just started but we have more to do. So if you would like to connect in a different way then you can sign up to our newsletter where we will only send you information about our events coming up.
